Mind - Managing Stress and Building Resilience
3 3 3 Rule - to help during anxiety
The 333 rule involves looking around your current environment and:
naming 3 things you see
identifying 3 sounds you hear
moving or touching 3 things, such as your limbs or external objects
While there is no formal research into the effectiveness of the 333 rule, many people find it to be a helpful and simple technique to handle anxiety. Although it won’t completely get rid of your anxiety, it can be a useful tool to manage it in the moment.
The 333 rule is not a substitute for treatment, no matter how helpful it may be to you or how frequently you use it.
Circle of control or concern
Something I often talk about and feature is the circle of control or concern - using this simple tool to remember what we can and can't control and how we can use the things we can control to improve our reactions to the uncertain.
Stress Bucket
The video below features another item that has been featured at our events which is understanding the stress bucket analogy. The basis of which is to understand that to find healthy coping mechanisms can lead to us being more resilient and better able to deal with stress.
